Pre-Season Inspection

Schedule professional spring maintenance: check refrigerant charge (top up if low — refrigerant does not get consumed unless there is a leak), clean both indoor and outdoor coils, test the reversing valve operation in cooling mode, and verify the condensate drain is flowing freely.

DIY Summer Prep

Replace or clean the air filter, clear vegetation and debris within 2 feet of the outdoor unit, gently rinse the outdoor coil with a garden hose (from the inside out), test the system in cooling mode on a mild day before hot weather arrives, and ensure the condensate drain line is clear.

Thermostat Optimization

Set the thermostat to 24-25°C when home — each degree lower increases cooling costs by 6-8%. Use AUTO fan setting for better dehumidification. Set the schedule to pre-cool during off-peak hours if on time-of-use rates. Use ceiling fans to create a wind-chill effect and allow a higher thermostat setting.
