Why Heat Pumps Need Bi-Annual Service in Vancouver

Why Twice Per Year
Unlike furnaces that heat only, heat pumps operate year-round for both heating and cooling. Each season stresses different components. Spring service prepares the cooling system. Fall service prepares the heating system. Twice-yearly service catches issues from each season of operation.
Spring Service (Pre-Cooling)
Check refrigerant charge, clean outdoor coil (winter debris), test cooling mode operation, check condensate drain, clean indoor filter, inspect ductwork for leaks, test thermostat operation in cooling mode, and verify the reversing valve switches to cooling.
Fall Service (Pre-Heating)
Check refrigerant charge (may need top-up after summer), clean outdoor coil (pollen and debris), test defrost cycle, inspect and clean the indoor unit blower wheel, test auxiliary heat operation, and verify the thermostat switches to heating mode correctly.
