Smart Thermostat Settings

Set to 24-25°C when home. Use AUTO fan setting (not ON) — continuous fan operation re-evaporates moisture and increases humidity. Use smart scheduling to pre-cool before peak heat hours. For time-of-use rates, pre-cool during off-peak hours and reduce cooling during peak.

Passive Cooling

Close blinds and curtains on south and west-facing windows during peak sun (11 AM-5 PM). Open windows at night when outdoor temperatures drop below 18°C to pre-cool the home. Use window fans to pull cool night air through the home. Plant deciduous trees on the south side for natural shading.

Low-Cost Cooling

Ceiling fans create a wind-chill effect — you can set the thermostat 2-3°C higher. Box fans in windows on opposite sides of the home create cross-ventilation. Cook outdoors or use a microwave instead of the oven. Close off unused rooms to concentrate cooling where needed.
