Can a Furnace Gas Valve Be Rebuilt or Must It Be Replaced?

Modern furnace gas valves are sealed assemblies. The internal components — solenoid coils, valve seats, regulators, and safety switches — are not serviceable individually. If any component fails, the entire valve must be replaced. This is by design to ensure safety and prevent improper repairs.
Why Rebuilding Is Not Recommended
Attempting to rebuild a gas valve (disassembling and replacing internal parts) is dangerous and likely to cause gas leaks or improper operation. There are no rebuild kits available from manufacturers. Rebuilt gas valves have no safety certification. Only licensed gas fitters should replace gas valves — never attempt to repair or rebuild one.
Replacement Is the Only Safe Option
If your furnace gas valve fails, replacement with an OEM gas valve ($150-400 for the part plus $200-400 labour) is the only safe option. Aftermarket gas valves are available but OEM is recommended for proper fit and safety certification. Always have gas valve work performed by a licensed gas fitter.
