Why the Condensate Pump Matters

High-efficiency furnaces produce acidic condensate water during operation. If the furnace is below the drain level (basement), a condensate pump lifts the water to a drain. The pump has a float switch — if the pump fails and water backs up, the float switch shuts down the furnace.

The pump runs but does not pump water, water is pooling around the furnace, the furnace keeps shutting off with a condensate-related error, the pump makes unusual noises (grinding, rattling), or the pump motor is completely silent when it should be running.
