Before Installation Day
The technician measures your home for cooling load calculation, selects the appropriate AC size (typically 2-4 tons for Vancouver homes), orders the equipment, and obtains necessary permits. You should clear access to the furnace area and the intended outdoor unit location.
Installation Day Process
1) Outdoor unit placement on a concrete pad or brackets. 2) Indoor evaporator coil installation on the furnace plenum. 3) Refrigerant line set installation between indoor and outdoor units. 4) Electrical connection for the outdoor unit (dedicated circuit and disconnect). 5) Condensate drain connection. 6) Refrigerant charging. 7) System testing. Total time: 6-10 hours for a typical installation.
Post-Installation Checks
The technician should: verify cooling performance (supply air temperature 15-20°F cooler than return), check refrigerant charge (subcooling and superheat), test condensate drainage, demonstrate the thermostat operation, review warranty registration, and clean the work area. You should receive a start-up report with system readings.
