Combi Boiler Heat Exchanger Replacement Cost in Vancouver

Signs of Heat Exchanger Failure

The boiler is losing pressure frequently (internal leak), the boiler is producing insufficient heat, the burner cycles on and off rapidly, water is leaking from the boiler cabinet, or the boiler display shows a heat exchanger-related error code. A failed heat exchanger may also cause kettling noise.

Replace Heat Exchanger or New Boiler?

Heat exchanger replacement costs $1,500-3,000 (part $800-1,500 plus labour $600-1,500). A new boiler costs $4,500-8,000. If the boiler is under 8 years old, replace the heat exchanger (often under parts warranty). If over 10 years old, replace the entire boiler.

Warranty Coverage

Most boiler heat exchangers have 5-15 year warranties depending on the brand. Navien: 5 year parts, Viessmann: 5-10 years, Baxi: 5 years. If under warranty, you pay labour only. Keep annual service records — warranty claims require proof of maintenance.

Safety Reminder

If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide or believe there is an immediate danger, leave the property and contact emergency services or the appropriate gas emergency authority. Do not remain inside — exit the building immediately and call for help from outside.
